Olaf's 'In Summer' Fun
In a corner of the Frozen sub-land the snow suddenly transitions into a sandy beach as guests come across Olaf's 'In Summer' Bumper Boats. This is an elaborate flat ride, in the style of Aquatopia, designed to give one of the film's most popular characters his own whimsical part of this expansion.
To complete the illusion of a tropical beach in the middle of a "Frozen" tundra, the time tested tool of a good transition will be key. A small snowy hill will be the main visual transitioning point. The snow and ice on one side of the hill will give way to the appearance of a sand dune on the other side. Likewise, the foliage on the hill also transitions from snowy pine trees to sunny palm trees. Olaf's beach exists in a corner of the area as if to be the snowman's own private little fantasy that guests can indulge in.
In addition to a small beach shack that sells ice cream and smoothies, the main feature of the beach is "Olaf's 'In-Summer' Bumper Boats". This C-ticket flat ride will be an innovative and fun take on the classic "bumper car" concept.
A variety of chairs are placed at the edge of the beach so guests can get good views of the action ensuing at the bumper boats. The attraction takes on an appearance of a small beach enclave with a rugged sand dune extending the length of the back side of the attraction.
The big visual center-point will be Olaf himself. This highly advanced AA will be able to interact with guests as they pass, using "Turtle Talk" style technology. Of course, Olaf also has a tendency to sing...and we all know what his favorite song is. Every 15 minutes or so, the beach lagoon will erupt in Olaf's rendition of "In Summer" as a modest series of dancing water fountains rises up behind him in tune.
The bumper boat entrance has you walking under a hand-made sign that has the crude charm of a kid's lemonade stall sign. It reads "Olaf's "In Summer" Bumper Boats. The sign is held up by a Sand Man and Sand Woman on either side who stand about six feet tall.

Guests find themselves in a lush tropical setting briefly as they make their way towards the bumper boat docks. Olaf's voice can be heard humming the attraction's namesake song.
Rounding a corner, guests enter a small cave and pass through the back side of a waterfall (Jungle Cruise enthusiasts, get your cameras ready!) and find that the loading dock is inside the warm, dank cave. Again, guests can overhear Olaf's cheerful whistling. The lighting on the cave's ceiling makes subtle changes in tune with Olaf's humming and whistling as you wait to board.
The big difference between this and other boats is that guests don't have control of their boat. While this might seem like a downgrade at first, this technology actually allows for a fully synchronized ride experience complete with lots of bumping action as well as fantastical moments of all the boats in the lagoon being completely in syncs with Olaf's music. It's similar to Pooh's Honey Hunt's trackless system, except in this case each boat comes wired in with a pre-set cycle of movements to perform.
This gives the ride a ton of re-ride value, as each of the 12 individual boats offer slightly different experiences. Some are rigged for more aggressive bumping action, while others sync up much more to the music. The one thing the guests can control on their boats is the rotation, much like on Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin.
The actual "arena" of the lagoon will obviously have the Olaf AA as the centerpiece. In addition to that, there will be several sand arches to traverse under as well as a variety of water obstacles that you can strategically use your rotation ability to maneuver around. There's even a small additional cave which the boats occasionally glide into. Olaf's In Summer Bumper Boats hopes to be an ambitious and ridiculously fun flat ride the entire family can enjoy again and again! Upon exiting their boats, guests walk along the long sand dune at the back of the lagoon to get back to Olaf's Beach and the general wonders of the Arendelle sub area.
